Scientific Wall Chart Collection
During the last centuries wall charts served as tools next to textbooks, alcohol-, dry conserved- and hard rubber preparations, to acquire knowledge about the anatomy , morphology and systematics of species.
About 700 of these historic large format images were rediscovered at the Zoological Collection. Special attention should be paid to special series with works by the botanist Paul Pfurtscheller (1855-1927) and the zoologist Rudolf Leuckart (1822-1898), which master the scientific and artistic-aesthetic qualities of zoological wall charts around the turn of the 19th into the 20th century.
Because of their richness in detail the scrolls deliver until today excellent templates for models and the understanding of biological contexts in the modern scientific community.
