I am a Master's student of Doz. Dr. Günter Gollmann preparing a thesis on the topic: “Habitat occurrence of the European Pond Turtle in the Danube floodplains (Austria): comparison of the traditional evaluation and eDNA-based method”.
The occurrence of the autochthonous population of the European Pond Turtle (Emys orbicularis) in Austria is restricted to the Donau-Auen National Park floodplain area. The aim of this study is to determine the occurrence and density of Emys orbicularis in this dynamic riverine landscape, using an eDNA-based method. Additionally, a traditional sampling method (mark-recapture) is applied to compare the results.
